Without such testimonials, or data based on research, it may not be possible to verify such claims. Furthermore, the exact concentration of Omega-3s, like ALA, supplied per serving is not disclosed in the supplement facts sheet either.
Nevertheless, the winning feature about Wholehealth™ products seems to be that the official website at least has an online shopping option. We have found that buying directly from the manufacturer online translates into better customer service, reduced prices and less hassle overall. In this review, however, we will assess EFA primarily for its benefits, and we’ll weigh its limitations in terms of whether or not it is the best source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
Ingredients at a Glance
As per the Wholehealth™ website, EFA consists of the following ingredients: Borage Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Organic Flaxseed Oil and Omega-3 Fish Oil (Marine Lipid Oil). These are said to supply Omega-3s and Omega-6s. However, as noted above, the exact proportion is not disclosed. It is noted that out of the 400mg of Marine Lipid Oil, 17.55% is comprised of EPA, while DHA is a mere 12.45% per serving, which is 2 capsules.

The oils used may be good sources of essential fatty acids like ALA. However, these fatty acids may be more easily gotten through diet than through EPA and DHA. Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) may have broad effects on one’s mental health. Studies suggest that a diet rich in EPA may help people combat such psychologically debilitating conditions as depression and anxiety.
The question then is what quantity of Omega-3 Fatty Acids would be sufficient and optimum for the body when it comes to being able to reduce the risk of heart diseases. About 200-500mg of Omega-3 Fatty Acids seems to be the norm amongst supplement makers. However, some recent studies seem to suggest taking over 650 mg each of EPA and DHA for optimum cardiovascular health.

The organic compound Alpha-Linoleic Acid is a polyunsaturated Omega-3 Fatty Acid that can be gotten through many common vegetable oils. Most notably, Canola Oil, Soybean Oil, Flaxseed Oil and Hemp Oil are rich in ALA. It is an essential fatty acid since the body cannot produce it by itself. Hence, it must be gotten through external food sources.
While ALA has been found to be related with a lower risk of heart diseases, it has been widely held that it does so because our bodies break it down into EPA and DHA. However, this breakdown process is limited. Therefore, it may be wiser to supplement one’s diet with a Fish Oil formula rich in EPA and DHA, instead of a generalized fatty acids formula rich in ALA.
