NOW® Omega-3 Fish Oil is a liquid dietary supplement that is part of the NOW® Foods product line. As evident from the product name, this supplement is meant to provide people with a rich source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. The company does make a point to assert that they feel this product may also help support cardiovascular health.
As many people are aware, there are many health benefits that are associated with Omega-3 supplementation. This is why there are now so many Omega-3 products on the market. We do appreciate the importance of this fatty acid, but we also feel that it takes a quality source to generate results.

According to the company website, this product contains the following ingredients: Natural Omega-3 Fish Oil, Natural Lemon, Flavored and Natural Antioxidant Blend (proprietary blend of Rosemary Extract, Ascorbyl Palmitate and Natural Tocopherols). Product also contains fish (sardines, anchovies) and soy derivatives.
As mentioned above, this product does come in liquid form. We do feel that the most effective delivery system is capsule-based supplements, because we are more confident that a capsule will successfully deliver the contained ingredients into the body for maximum absorption.
Ingredients in Focus
We appreciate that this manufacturer recognizes the importance of getting their Omega-3s from a Fish Oil source. It’s well known that seafood is the only source in nature for the DHA and EPA Fatty Acids, both of which are considered the most powerful Omega-3s for the body. However, we are a bit disappointed that this supplement contains so little of DHA. This Omega-3, in particular, has been described as “brain” food and is said to generate amazing health improvements for the heart and cardiovascular system. We do feel that DHA is equally as important as EPA, and we feel that the most effective formulas on the market offer at least 700mg of each of these fatty acids. Currently, this product only offers 475mg of DHA per serving.
Furthermore, while we do feel that Fish Oil is a superior source for Omega-3s, there are certain issues we feel must be addressed. Many fish in the ocean contain high amounts of environmental toxins, particularly mercury, and it is best when a manufacturer ensures their consumers that they have taken the proper steps to purify their formulas and to catch “clean” fish. There are companies on the market that use a 40-step distillation process in order to guarantee that their Fish Oil is pure and safe.
Cost
This product cannot be purchased directly from the manufacturer, but is offered for sale at other online stores. However, we did notice that many of these stores have drastically reduced the price of this product. Originally, a single bottle of this supplement retailed for about $30, but can now be found for a significantly cheaper price. Some consumers may find these savings to be a major benefit, but we do have to wonder why these companies have been forced to drop the price by so much and if the product is hard to get off their shelves.

In the end, this product does contain both EPA and DHA, and we appreciate that the company utilized Fish Oil as their source for Omega-3s. As mentioned, there is a sufficient amount of research to indicate that these two powerful fatty acids can help support and improve bodily functions and systems. This is why we do wish the formula contained higher concentrations of DHA. We believe that those people who want to get the most out of their dietary supplements may want to look into other options on the market.
