This product is manufactured and promoted by the company Jarrow Formulas®, which sells several other supplements that are very similar in function and composition. Omega-3 based dietary products are now so popular due to the many health benefits that are linked to this essential fatty acid. Research indicates that supplementation of Omega-3 Fatty Acids can lead to improved function of the cardiovascular system and help prevent chronic heart diseases.

According to the company website, this product contains the following ingredients: Omega 3, DHA and EPA and Fish Oil (Anchovy and Sardine). Gamma Tocopherol and Ascorbyl Palmitate are added for protection of long-chain fatty acids. The soft gel consists of Gelatin, Glycerin and Water and is colored with carob as a light barrier. In addition, the manufacturer does note that this product is free of gluten, soy, dairy, egg, shellfish, nuts and tree nuts.

This product does derive their Omega-3s from a fish oil source. There are several plant sources that also contain this fatty acid, but we do feel that fish oil sources are superior because they contain the Omega-3s that are called DHA and EPA. As evident from this product’s formula, the company feels that this supplement is a rich source of DHA, but it, unfortunately, contains only a minuscule amount of EPA. DHA is described as a brain food, and it can definitely offer the body a number of health benefits, but we feel that EPA is equally as important and powerful, and consumers are shortchanging themselves when using a supplement that does not also offer a rich source of this fatty acid as well.
However, we do wish to note that we feel this product also contains just a small amount of DHA since each serving only offers 250 mg (and only 36 mg of EPA!). We feel to gain full benefits of these powerful fatty acids, a supplement should contain at least 700 mg of each. There are other Omega-3 products on the market that offer a higher amount of each of these fatty acids. We also suggest finding a product that takes the effort to catch their fish oil sources from fish that are low in mercury content.

Max DHA™ is listed on the company website and even has its own webpage, complete with a product description. We did find this surprising, considering the company’s high inventory, but we do appreciate that the manufacturer takes the time to provide interested consumers with product information. However, we do feel the site would be enhanced if the product descriptions were also accompanied by consumer reviews and cited research to show that these products have worked successfully for others and have been carefully developed. Furthermore, this website does not currently have a checkout function, which means that consumers will always have to purchase Max DHA™ from a third-party retailer.
