Kyolic® EPA is a dietary supplement that is advertised as a potent formula for cardiovascular nourishment. This supplement is part of the Swanson Health Products brand, which also promotes and manufactures a number of other dietary supplements including a few products very similar in composition and function to this supplement. In order to generate its advertised health and heart benefits, this supplement is said to contain a source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
There are many Omega-3 based supplements on the market today due to the many studies touting this ingredient as a powerful element capable of improving health. Unfortunately, we do not feel that all Omega-3 supplements are equal, so we will take a closer look at this product to determine if it offers a high-quality and concentrated source of Omega-3s.

According to the company website, Kyolic® EPA contains the following ingredients: Vitamin E, Omega-3s (Fish Oil), DHA, EPA, Aged Garlic Extract, Gelatin, Glycerin and Beeswax. The manufacturer of this supplement recommends that consumers take two soft-gels of this product with a meal twice daily.
Ingredients in Focus
In addition to the Omega-3s, this product also contains Vitamin E and Garlic Extract. Vitamin E is a well known vitamin that may provide the skin and hair a number of benefits. In fact, this ingredient is said to help protect against sun damage and may even help reduce the appearance of scars, but this is when it is used in topically applied products. Garlic Extract is fairly popular and also said to provide the body with a number of benefits, and there are many who feel that this ingredient is good for the heart. However, the studies to support the health benefits of this ingredient are not yet conclusive.
In contrast, there are many well-established research studies that demonstrate the benefits that Omega-3s may provide the body—specifically the heart, brain and joints. In fact, Omega-3s are also said to help and prevent high blood pressure, allergies, varicose veins and even some digestive disorders. We feel that it takes rather high doses of Omega-3s in order to gain full benefits, and unfortunately, currently this supplement only offers 600mg of EPA and 400 mg of DHA. We feel that the most effective supplements are ones that offer at least 700mg of each of these fatty acids.

Currently, there is no individual product website for Kyolic® EPA, but this supplement is featured on the company website. While we appreciate that the manufacturer displayed the complete ingredient list for this formula, we were a bit disappointed that there were no posted testimonials. Oftentimes, consumer reviews are a good indication if a product may perform as advertised, and we feel that the best products on the market should have a wide assortment of testimonials available for curious customers. When a manufacturer fails to post consumer reviews, we have to wonder if it’s because they have yet to receive any positive testimonials.

Final Thoughts
Ultimately, this supplement is likely to appeal to consumers who have heard about the many benefits that Omega-3 supplements may provide. We do appreciate that the manufacturer took their Omega-3s from fish oil as this is the only source of the DHA and EPA Omega-3s, but we also feel this supplement would be much more powerful if the product contained higher concentrations of these two fatty acids. However, those consumers who would like to give this supplement a try can find it for sale at the company website.
