Omega-3 Fatty Acids are often referred to as essential fatty acid because they can’t be created by the human body, so they are obtained exclusively through dietary sources. EPA and DHA are the major components of Omega-3s and are actually the reason it is so effective in easing the conditions we outlined above. They have also been found to be highly effective in easing inflammation, which is why they may help address joint and breathing issues so effectively. For instance, when inflammation is reduced, joint pain eases and constricted airways let air pass through unhindered.

We were surprised to note that a dose of BestVite™ Omega-3 only contains 600 mg of total Omega-3s, which breaks down to 360 mg of EPA and 240 mg of DHA. Most of the higher quality products contain 700 mg of EPA and DHA, as well as containing a total of 1600 mg of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Products that deliver higher amounts of Omega-3s have been shown to be far more effective and economical over time.

Fish Oil is a major source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, but they have been found to be particularly plentiful in fatty deepwater fish such as anchovy, tuna, salmon and cod due to the fact that they consume algae, which is rich in Omega-3s. However, fish such as salmon, which are ‘farmed,” often do not contain Omega-3 Fatty Acids unless it is added into their food. This is why it is so important to know where a product developer gets their raw materials for their Omega-3 products.

According to our research, fish obtained from the Baltic or Norwegian Sea have been shown to contain some of the highest amounts of both EPA and DHA, which make them highly effective sources of Omega-3s. We were disappointed to note that BestVite™ did not discuss where their “Fish Oil” comes from. Many of the best developers post this information because it may be a great selling point when they use the best source material.

On its own website, BestVite™ indicates that it may have a world-class customer care department staffed by extensively trained representatives. We had some questions about the source material of their Omega-3 formula, as well as wanting to determine if they used pharmaceutical grade Fish Oil, so we gave them a call. Unfortunately, we had to call many times before we actually spoke with a representative, but the customer service representative could not answer our questions, which was frustrating. Consumers should be able to get their product-related questions answered quickly and effectively. This is especially true with holistic supplements.

While BestVite™ Omega-3 has been popular with some consumers, it was clear to us when we took a close look at its formula that there are some flaws in its design.

For instance, it is not clear what kind of Fish Oil they use, and due to safety concerns brought about by high levels of chemicals in fish, we always suggest using formulas that deliver at last 1600mg of highly filtered pharmaceutical grade Omega-3 Fatty Acids. However, as noted earlier, this formula only delivers 600mg of total Omega-3s, which, according to our research, is far less than most of us need to get our Omega-3 levels where they need to be to optimize health.
